The owners, Shell and Sheldon Grossman, are hosting a fundraising event for Charles Evans Hughes Middle School in Long Beach. From May 11th to June 9, 2013, Bixby Knolls Car Wash will donate from $3.00 to $10.00, when one of their four combination wash packages is purchased. Hughes principal, Dr. Sally Gregory decided the money raised will be used for technology purposes such as ink and paper, overhead projectors, and bulbs. Hughes Middle School is the largest Middle School in Long Beach with over 1700 students so the need is truly evident. With this fundraising event The Grossman’s hope to make a difference and to assist Hughes to keep on being one of the highest achieving schools in Long Beach. The public is encouraged to join the Grossman’s in this event. The Grossman’s say “Come in, get your car washed and help Hughes Middle School at the same time.” Both Bixby Knolls Car Wash and Hughes Middle School have set great goals for reducing their impact on the environment. The Grossman’s have upgraded to a high tech recycle and reclaim system which filters and cleans the water used in the wash process. Through their innovative techniques, a large percentage of their water is filtered and reused in subsequent washes. Therefore, at the most only 40 gallons of fresh water is used for the final rinse on each vehicle which is less than most home washing machines use per wash! This means the carwash uses less water over all, and since the water is cleaned before it touches the customer’s car it results in the same great clean car. When a car is washed at home, the run off carries the grime and chemicals into the soil and storm drains that empty into the rivers and ocean.
